Sri Lanka has received international aid on Wednesday after death count has reached 202 in recent strike by floods and landslides on the island for over a decade.Foreign Minister Ravi Karunanayake confirmed the supply of relief materials from 16 countries, consisting of medicine to help cater for over 600,000 people displaced from their homes after Friday’s heavy rainfall.“We also have a lot of enquiries from other countries and organizations wanting to know our immediate needs. We are moved by the spontaneous response,” Karunanayake was pleased to say this to reporters in Colombo.Few of those countries were India and Pakistan who supplied medical teams to assist in some areas most affected by the disaster, he remarked.According to the Disaster Management Centre, the death toll climbed to 202 following the discovery of more bodies buried under tonnes of mud  in the country’s most-hit southwest.It also said about 96 people were yet to be accounted for in the newest wave of disaster.After the subsidence of the deluge in most-affected areas, volunteers have resumed cleaning of wells to make way for supply of fresh water to survivors, according to official report.The spokesperson of the government, Rajitha Senaratne made it known that more medical teams were called in to avoid the spread of communicable diseases.Report had it that no less than 250 people lost their lives and 10,000 homes were destroyed in similar situation in May 2003.
