By Correspondent

The Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joe Akabuike, has revealed that there Are Over 2000 Cases of Tuberculosis in Anambra. The commissioner made this known on Monday in Awka, while briefing newsmen in his office. He added that the patients were receiving treatment at various Directly Observed Therapy Centres in the State. He hinted that 13 other states, including Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Anambra State have contributed to over 75% of the total TB burden in Nigeria. The Commissioner argued that the disease was caused by a germ called Mycobacterium Tuberculosis, just as he added that it was spread through the air when people who had active TB in their lungs sneezed, coughed, spat, spoke or sang.
