Another incidence of suicide bombing has been reported in north east Nigeria resulting in the death of two persons and injuries to seven others. This occurred when three female suicide bombers struck a herding community, a village elder and a civilian militia member said. Ali Musa, who witnessed the blast said the bombers, were suspected to have been sent by Boko Haram terrorists and their strike at Shuwari Buri village, some 38 kilometres from Maiduguri took place 9:20 pm local time on Monday. “Two of them rushed into a thatched hut and detonated their explosives, killing two brothers who had retired for the night,” he recounted.
“The third bomber detonated her explosives among residents who had gathered ”¦ injuring seven.” The three bombers were previously denied accommodation by the villagers on security grounds, having claimed they were travelers, who needed a place to rest for the night. Ibrahim Liman, who is a member of the civilian militia confirmed the situation. Shuwari Buri is a village in the Konduga area, some 40 kilometres southeast of Maiduguri and has been serially attacked by suicide bombers and gunmen. Boko Haram’s stock in trade has been suicide bombers aimed at civilians in mosques, schools, markets and bus stations. Very disheartening is the frequency of female involvement in the bombing cases. This has become a common tool adopted by the Islamist terrorists who had forfeited captured territory to the security forces owing to a continued counter-insurgency since early 2015. The rebellion in the region by the terrorists demanding for an Islamic state has caused at least 20,000 deaths in Nigeria and dislocation of about 2.6 million people. About 5.1 million people are under the threat of hunger and the sole source of solace is the supply from aid agencies.
