Unemployment: Obasanjo Says Nigeria is Sitting on Gun Powder

The need to urgently reduce the rate of unemployment in Nigeria has been emphasised by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.He urged governments at all levels to take action and not relent in finding solutions to the menace of unemployment in the country.Speaking at the 10th anniversary of the founding of theTai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijebu Ode, the former president lamented that, “If there is no job for the unemployed to feed themselves and also to contribute to the development of the country then, we will all be sitting on gun powder.”Speaking further at the event which also served as the 6th and 7th convocation of the university, Obasanjo said: “If University education was not for development then, it is not serving any useful purpose,” stressing “It must be for development, personal, local, national and even global and that is very important”.Obasanjo stated that, “I believe in lifelong education. Nobody should stop learning until he or she dies.”At the event, President Obasanjo bagged a Honorary Doctorate of Education in Political Science. Alhaji Aliko Dangote also bagged an award at the event.
