28 Prison Inmates in Ekiti Regain Freedom

Twenty-eight prison inmates in Ekiti State were on Tuesday granted freedom by the Chief Judge (CJ) of the state, Justice Ayodele Daramola. Those freed were inmates from various prisons who have been awaiting trial. The CJ maintained that the visit was intended to decongest the prison. Justice Daramola argued that some of the inmates had no cases to answer from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP), while others were released on bail. The CJ, who expressed sadness over the high level of rape in the state, revealed that rape and armed robbery were the two crimes competing for prominence in the society.
