Abati Promises Not to Criticise Buhari

By Correspondent

Dr Reuben Abati, former Special Adviser to the immediate past President Goodluck Jonathan on Media and Publicity, has posited that he will not involve himself in the criticism of the government of incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari. The former media adviser explained that he took an oath to protect the President of Nigeria. Abati was asked by an online newspaper (not NewsBreakers) to comment on the “budget mafia” which is believed to have punctured the 2016 Appropriation Bill presented by President Buhari. But Abati was quoted as saying that he would not pass any comment concerning that. According to Abati, “If you have been following my writings, you will notice that I haven’t been commenting directly on government issues, I’m not going to say anything. “I’ve returned to my work as an intellectual, doing my own writings and reflections on society. “You see, the kind of job that I did, I took an oath of office to defend the President and the government of Nigeria. “I would not have defended one government and then I will start talking bad about another President, I cannot do that. “I’m no longer SA Media, but when you take an oath, its binding and my own understanding as they do it in America is that, that oath does not end, it does not expire. “In the oath, they won’t put the name of the President; you are swearing to defend the office of the President of Nigeria.”
