Trump Assassination Attempt: U.S. Director of Secret Service Resigns

The Director of the U.S. Secret Service, Kimberly A. Cheatle, has resigned from her position on July 23, 2024, after a failed assassination attempt on Donald Trump. The secret service has been under scrutiny, stemming from security failures. She had led the Secret Service since August 2022.In an email to the Secret Service, she wrote, “I take full responsibility for the security lapse.” She added that the agencies duties to protect the nation’s leaders “fell short of that mission.”“I do not want my calls for resignation to be a distraction from the great work each and every one of you do towards our vital mission,” she wrote in the email.
