“I enjoin protesters and organizers to suspend any further protests…” – Tinubu to Protesters

Korede TeribaPresident Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has on Sunday, August 4, 2024, addressed the protests by youths, urging them to suspend “any further protests” in a nationwide broadcast.The speech addressed the loss of lives birthed by the protests. “I am especially pained by the loss of lives in Borno, Jigawa, Kano, Kaduna…” The speech read in part.Also the president emphasized concern for the “turmoil and violent protests unleashed in some parts of” the state.He harped on his committement to public service, stating his constitutional responsibilities of protecting “the lives and property of every citizen…” He urged the the protesters to suspend protests and embrace dialogue, “Under the circumstances, I hereby enjoin protesters and the organisers to suspend any further protest and create room for dialogue,” he urged.He also stated initiatives aimed at boosting the economy, especially in the Oil & Gas sector and education. These included the Compressed Natural Gas project and students’ loan scheme.In conclusion of his speech, he charged security operatives to “continue to maintain peace, law, and order” and “following the necessary conventions on human rights, to which Nigeria is a signatory.”
