Abia Speaker resigns 24 hours after assuming office

Newly elected Abia Speaker, Bishop Kennedy Njoku representing the Osisioma Ngwa North Constituency has just resigned 24 hours after assuming office, citing personal grounds as reason for resignation.

Njoku was sworn in after the former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly; Rt. Hon. Martins Azubuike was impeached for abuse of power, financial recklessness, high handedness and insensitivity to members and staff of the House.After being ushered into the hallowed chambers, the speaker, Njoku announced his resignation after the opening formalities.A new speaker promptly emerged in the person of Chikwendu Kalu, representing Isiala Ngwa South, The sole nominee for the position; Hon. Kalu was elected by voice vote.He has been sworn in by the Clerk of the Assembly.
