No Regrets Backing Jonathan for Presidency, Says Metuh

National Publicity Secretary of the opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh has on behalf of the party, thrown into the gutters the position of the Chairman of the organising committee of the PDP’s National Stakeholders’ Conference, Raymond Dokpesi, on the choice of immediate past President Goodluck Jonathan as candidate in the 2015 elections. It would be recalled that Dokpesi had while fielding questions from journalists in Abuja described as a mistake, the choice of President Jonathan as a candidate for the race.He specifically argued that the PDP’s loss of the presidential poll to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party was due to the resolve to support Jonathan rather than a northerner in compliance with the PDP’s earlier zoning arrangement.Dokpesi thereafter tendered an apology over the statement credited to him.But the apparently angry Metuh maintained that Dokpesi’s comments were ordinary personal opinion.According to Metuh, “That statement made by Chief Raymond Dokpesi is his personal opinion and does not represent in any way an official position of the PDP. In the first place, Dokpesi is not a member of the National Executive of the PDP and he can only speak in his personal capacity and his opinion remains personal and does not represent that of the party.”
