NUPENG Tells FG to Fix Refineries to End Fuel Crisis

The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has called upon the Federal Government to make fixing the nation’s four refineries a priority, if it wants the present fuel scarcity in the country come to an end. The Union further called on the government to make sure the pipelines are well protected and put an end to illegal bunkering. Igwe Achese, the National President of the NUPENG, revealed this on Monday in a television interview. He noted that the country will continue to experience fuel scarcity because the distribution and marketing are in the hands of few individuals. Achese added that petroleum subsidy was introduced by Obasanjo’s administration in 2006 as a measure to carry out a turnaround maintenance on the refineries. However, that has not been done and the country now depends solely on the importation of petroleum products.
