The Director of Veterinary Services, Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Kano State, Dr. Shehu Bawa has announced the reappearance of bird flu in the state.

Bawa said the outbreak was recorded in one of the poultry farms in the state. He also said that strategic measures have been taken to depopulate the affected farm and prevent further spreading of the disease to other farms.Parts of these measures include disinfection of the affected farm and surveillance of the other farms.He has also called on other farmers to report to the appropriate authority the outbreak in their farms if found so as to enable the government to take quick and drastic measures.”˜I am using this opportunity to advise farmers to immediately report any outbreak of the disease to enable government take prompt response’.He said most of the abattoirs in the state lacked veterinarians to inspect the animals before they were slaughtered; therefore he urged the government to adopt a more effective means of supervising abattoirs in the state.
