Heavily Armed Bandits attack NIS officials in Delta

The patrol team of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) were attacked by some gunmen suspected to be Ijaw youths from the Ogbe-Ijoh Community in the Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State. The bandits injured an officer and also escaped with two riffles belonging to the patrol team.

An operative of the Marine Police team who rushed to the scene to rescue the officers sustained a gunshot injury to the hand during the attack.The NIS officials were attacked by gunmen chanting Ijaw language war songs along the creeks of Fegenegbene community while being headed toward the Warri Main Market.According to a source in the Marine Police Post, it was stated that the officials would have been abducted by the heavily armed men if not for the timely intervention of the police.However it was discovered that the attack was unrelated to the recent rivalry between the Aladja community and Ogbe-Ijoh community over a land boundary dispute.The spokesperson of the Delta State Command of NIS, Joy Obikwe, when contacted affirmed the incident but said she had not been briefed about the details.
